Hastings, Minnesota Happenings

Hastings Minnesota events, calendar, website, business directory

Not having grown up in Hasting, what stories exist to tell of its history.
Old buildings downtown must have stories, but where does a new resident find out the historic stories about Hastings?
I understand the indian history is rich in Dakota County, but where are the stories?
Has Hastings ever been flooded?

These are good questions Hugh. Having lived here about 17 years myself I find it interesting how little local history is known or at even acknowledged.
Try the library at the City Hall. The lady who runs it will help you explore. The Hastings Library also has a special section on the history of Hastings, including old newspaper clips and the like. Dakota Indian History is part of that file.

Dick Reisner at the meat store downtown (the only one with a suspension sign) is a wealth of information. His family has run the store since the turn of the century.

Directly behind the American Legion along the Mississippi you will find a marker of the high water mark in the last flood in the 60's. It is as high as a telephone pole.
I'll check out your recommendations, thank-you, Ken!
