Hastings, Minnesota Happenings

Hastings Minnesota events, calendar, website, business directory

With school-aged kids, we are often heading to a bowling alley for parties and group events. But there's one problem - we can't go bowling in Hastings since we don't have a bowling alley.

I've heard many people in town say we should have one, based on the size of our city, and our demographics. There are many folks in Hastings who enjoy bowling a few games with friends, or in a league, and yes, have a few beverages and fun food along the way. There's even a Facebook page set up in support of a bowling alley for our community - and more than 1,000 people have signed up as "fans" of this page.

So...why doesn't Hastings have a bowling alley?

Well, as with many things in Hastings, there are simply too many cities around us with such an amenity, so it probably doesn't make economic sense to open one here. Cottage Grove, Rosemount and Treasure Island Resort and Casino all have bowling alleys (and there may be more I'm not aware of in nearby cities).

But what do you think? Is it really necessary for Hastings to have a bowling alley, or are the nearby alleys enough to satisfy our residents' desire to bowl 10 frames and down some pizzas and beer?

Let me know what you think by posting a reply to this discussion!

A reply just submitted by Michelle Olson:

We would love a bowling alley here in Hastings again,

then the Hastings sharks of special olympics would

have a closer place to practice every year.

with gas prices the way they are we would put the money

we spend elsewere, here in town. I would rather spend the

money here and have a place for teenagers to go also.

            thank you !

I agree. A bowling alley would be very beneficial to Hastings. It would help Hastings Sharks have a closer place and give a place for a closer place for teens to hang out. Not to mention anyone else that likes to bowl.

A bowling alley was once a part of this town, just north of the bridge. I believe it went out of business many years ago.

There's a difference in today's alleys... they seem like discos, and it takes a BIG bankroll to fund all the equipment needed to start from scratch. Is there anyone in the community currently working on bringing one to town, or is it a grassroots question? I'd favor one that doesn't involve "beverages". It is possible to participate in a sport without having to "celebrate" each ball thrown.

Where Dugarel's is was at one time the Bucaneer (spelling) Bowling Alley.   North of the bridge, on the way to Prescott was Showboat Lounge.   About 10 years ago.   It would cost a million dollars minimum to open up a new alley with approx 20 lanes.  Have some fun.   Get your people together and put your $'s together and open it up.

I would love to see a bowling alley in Hastings once again. I have a few thoughts on this. When my son, who is now 24, was little he was able to bowl in a league on Saturday mornings. It kept him away from the television and it was something we could do together as a family. We need more things in this town where families can get out and do things together other than taking in a movie.

I see many kids these days heading off to Treasure Island to bowl and would love to see them traveling less on roads where there are many individuals are also traveling who have been drinking at Treasure Island. As an adult I would prefer to bowl in Hastings where I could have a beverage and than utilize Smart Ride if needed. I could see many benefits from bringing a business of this nature back to Hastings.

Yes it would be nice to have a bowling alley in Hastings!  Instead of having to go to rosemount or cottage grove.
